Fieldwork presented some unique challenges, including using heavy coring equipment in deep lakes from the confines of a small inflatable boat and having to chase monkeys away from stealing limnology equipment, but was by far the highlight of PhD so far! Visiting my beautiful field sites in person gave my research so much context, and reinvigorated my enthusiasm for the project – and it isn’t every day that you see wild elephants on the commute back from a days field work!

Laura Hunt is an Envision PhD student hosted at the British Geological Survey and the University of Nottingham. In 2019 she visited Uganda to complete the first fieldwork for her research… You can read the full article here
